Before I officially started making my capstone, I conducted a Jam project which allowed me to experiment with the areas in which I am interested.
As a game designer, I have a huge interest in storytelling through interactive platforms. Therefore, I aimed to upskill my coding skills by looking into dialogue systems in Unity.
I worked on this project as a group, creating 2D fighting combat game with dialogue systems on.
I first started by looking into different ways of coding dialogues. For example, evoking dialogue by pressing a button, or automatically opening when you approach the character or click on the mouse.
This was a great opportunity to find out what system will be most suitable for my capstone. Eventually I coded 3 different dialogue scripts and decided to mix 2 of them so that the dialogue system evokes when the player is close AND button is pressed.
Another thing that I looked at was dialogue layout. I experiemnted with differnt dialogue sprite designs to see which one would not make the reading disctracting and able to see enough information of the character.
